Choke recommendation for tss #9 m835

I need some help finding a choke. I shoot a mossberg 835 with a 20" barrel. I have polished the barrel and forcing cone. I am switching to federal tss #9 in 3.5in this year.

I saw 2 chokes out there made specifically for this ammo. The carlsons and the trulock. I have read some of the threads regarding the 20 vs 24 inch barrel. I have both but prefer the mobility of the 20.

All that being said, is one of these chokes better than the other?
Is there a better choke out there for my setup with this ammo?

I like the idea of the #9 but im open to look at #7 if it is better for this setup. Thanks in advance.

I'll let someone else comment on the Carlsons vs Trulock. through I'd get a Indian Creek or Jebs first. As far as #9s or #7s there is no reason to shoot #7s. #9s are more than capable.

#9 and 3 and a half in shell is a pile of pellets.  Make sure you post a pic of your target when you pattern it.

I would call Indian Creek and see what they recommend. If I remember correctly they worked with Federal when they developed these shells. The Federal TSS loads like a tight choke.

So indian creek says i need a .675, trulock says i need a .660 and they have a cho
And jebs goes from .665 down to a .650.

Why such a variance?

I have seen that in several threads about the 835. Some say the shorter barrel requires tighter constriction while others say go with a .675 no matter what.

I have a 835 with a 24" barrel.  My 835 shoots lead and Hevi 13 REALLY well with chokes in the .670-.680 range.  Some of the best chokes that have patterned well are .670 Pure Gold, .675 Indian Creek, .675 SSX and the .676 Stardot just to name a few.  I see in the Mossberg pattern pics that the Indian Creek puts up great numbers but is very tight at 20 and 30 with TSS.  I shoot the pure gold .670 with Hevi 13 #7's and they are BAD.  IMO TSS is way over kill in a 12 gauge but definitely improves 20 and .410 gauges.  If your dead set on shooting TSS, check the Mossberg patterning board and see some of the TSS patterns.  The .675 Indian creek would be a Great starting point with those #9's.

I currently have a ssx in it. Maybe i should just try one in it and see.

SSX is an outstanding start.  You may try the Mossy X full turkey choke .690 that should have come with the gun as well.  Make sure you check POA/POI with some dove loads at 15 yards before you shoot the TSS.  I would also clean and polish the barrel.  Mine shot low right when I set mine up and I put a red dot on it to correct that problem.

Yes sir, good recommendations. I polished the barrel, put a red dot on changed the stock and had the trigger slop cleaned up a few years ago.

Ill post a pic of the pattern as soo. As i can make it to cabelas.

I must be an odd ball, I get 400 plus with the factory flush .705 out of a 935. It actually out shoots  (in my gun) some of the chokes mentioned by others. I use a 2.25 oz load of 9's.

Shoot what ya got and change if your unhappy. Chances are anything.675-.710 is going to perform well.

I only had to try one choke in my 935 and that was the Indian Creek .675....I did not need to see anything else......424 in a 10" circle at 40yds with the Federal 3.5" #9 TSS nice even pattern......blew me away......If you have a truglo strut stopper extreme (SSX) I would try that first...I think they are .670 in the 835/935 guns....In my Remington 20ga with Federal TSS the truglo ssx was awesome.....good luck and let us know how the SSX performs.....

VA is correct.  The SSX for the 835/935 is .670 not .675

Sorry it took me a minute to get to this but here are my pattern results @ 40 yards. This was using a mossberg 835, 20 inch polished barrel, 3.5 inch federal tss #9's with a strut stopper extreme .675 choke. My poi was slightly high and right but these shells are too expensive to keep toying with. The target is a 12"x12" square. There were 445 hits in that square.
