Walnut over mahogany is a classic wood combination. I would recommend it in a short box for sure (no experience in a long box with this combo).
I have seen very few oak box calls, and have played only one. It was a zircote over oak fiddlebox. Same goes for ash, but never have played one.
Poplar is used all the time in box calls.
For the specific wood combos you mentioned, you will have to get with a reputable call maker, and have it made to order. I'm not a call maker but I would THINK using oak or ash for the lid and yellow poplar for the box, would be workable. Oak and ash together might be tough to tune, because they are so close in hardness. Might be like trying to tune an all walnut box.
