Just curious which is going to give you more shot? 1.5oz of 9 or 1-5/8oz of 8x10?

Jbird22

I would say that depends on the ratio of 10's vs. 8's.

Yep. I tried duplex loads and was always left dissatisfied.

I would think the blended load should have a higher pellet count...

According to my sources a 1 1/2 oz load of #9 should have 543 pellets.....a 1 5/8 oz load of #8 should have 410 pellets.  I can't find the count per oz on #10 shot but a 1 5/8 blended with half #8 and half #9 should come up to right at 500 pellets.....

I would think the 8/10 blended loads should have probably equal the shot that a 1 1/2 oz load of #9's but it all depends on what the mix is...... long story short I don't know.   :TooFunny:

254/oz of 8
360/oz of 9
495/oz of 10

If I was Federal I'd add extra 10s to increase pattern density and draw more attention.

Jrkimbrough

Btw, i have plans on testing both loads this weekend and will post results

probably a mix of whatever TSS they could get from around 8's to around 10's.  lot to lot who knows.

Only time will tell.

Nitro and Environmetal 100%. Ferderal probably true too.

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would shoot 10 unless it's for a 410 or to shoot paper.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

I didn't have complete trust in my 5 year olds shooting ability last year so I decided to load him 10s instead of 9s in a 20 gauge to pack another 150 pellets in his shell. It worked out well. He will shoot 10s a few more years.

But I agree I do not see a benefit, for a competent shooter, using 10s in anything larger than a .410.

So your saying that the 10's are too light for some hunting situations?

I know there was a post a while back where an individual shot 9.5 out of 410 and got a decent (140 in the 10") pattern at 35 but said his pattern pellet count at 40 was about half that. That was an Apex load I believe. That was a huge drop in pattern I thought.

3bailey3

that's a very nice pattern

owlhoot

Good pattern there . Also looks like about 530 pellets on the paper.
