Well it's finally here, my season starts in the morning and the weather is calling for more rain, hmmm big surprize. They call for rain Weds., Thur., sunny for Fri., t-storms for Sat. and Sun. with a cold front coming through Weds. with temps in 40's, but very light winds. So it should be interesting, at least the temp will be cool and I can put a rain suit on under my camo and not swet to death, and with all the rain we've had the ticks won't be bad. Hopefully the birds will be gobbling in the morning and I can get on one that wants to play, they have been awfull skitish this year and if I use a decoy I think I'll just use a feeding hen or maybe two? Anyway can't wait to get into the woods and chase some thunder chickens.

Good luck Scott. Our opener is Sat. The forecast is clear and sunny. I'll believe it when I see it.  :anim_25:

No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.

Well day one is in the books, Turkeys 5, Willow 0. I couldn't get into my normal spot because someone else was in it, so I went to the back side of the woods, and setup in the middle of a hayfield that has a hump in the center of it with a blown down tree, great place to sit. They started gobbling at 5:30 and never quit all day. I had 7 birds talking and 4 came into the field . I called in 3 and never got a shot, one I called  in twice  and he'd get to about 50yds and the big boy would start gobbling, and he'd run off to fight. You could hear them going at it in the woods, and he'd run the sub bird off and sit there gobbling. There wasn't an hour without a bird sounding off today and that old bugger caused me 3 shots today. I've got him roosted and he has a bullseye on his neck. Every time a bird would start to get close to me he'd start a gobbling fit and they would run off or at him to fight. As soon as I'd try to get up or move a bird would come into the field and pin me down, I'd work him in close and he'd gobble them away. I seen him 4 times at the edge of the woods but he never stepped foot into the field.  The woods is small only about 100yds long and 60yds wide. The other guy at the other end got a shot at about 10:00 and I watched him walk out to his truck with my binoes but didn't see him carring anything? Not sure what tomorrow will bring but I'll be there locked and loaded.

Bad Bird Down....He made the mistake of getting on my bad side yesterday and got a ride home in the truck today.  He tried to pull the same crap as he did  yesterday, but today at 5:56 was his last breath. He was the only bird gobbling this morning, I hit him with two clucks on my glass call on the roost, then grabbed my Gibson and gave him a couple raspy yelps, then grabbed a chunk of log and heaved it over my head and as it crashed down through the brush, and bounced on the ground I hit him with some raspy yelps and hard cutts. I heard him leave the roost, dropped the box, pick up the gun and held it on my strutter. He landed next to it and went into half strut and made a half circle till the gun roared. BAD BIRD DOWN. I'll post some pictures as soon as it quits raining.
