Turned on lathe by hand out of high density wood laminate that is phenolic impregnated.

Very hard, dense and constistant material.  Well balanced striker with flare tip.  Sanded to 6,000 grit and multi-coat finish that is smopth as glass.  This materials is weather resistant and will not absorb moisture.
