Wondering if anyone has experience with travel insurance for an out of state hunt?  Thinking of booking one pretty soon, but don't really know what insurance company to go with.  Any help would be much appreciated.

I used trip insurance for an out of country fishing due to booking a year in advance. I ended up not using the insurance but later found out I might have been able to claim one day of the trip that was lost due to weather. I just went with the company that the outfitter recommended and it worked. If I remember correctly the insurance was based on the price of the trip.

I've never even heard of such a thing.  What kind of insurance are you talking about?  Granted, for an international trip I could see the need for purchasing supplemental insurance if your U.S. insurance policy would not cover some things associated with an out-of-the-country trip.  I have done that a couple of times going into Mexico.  But what kind of insurance could you possibly need within the U.S.?

I've used travel insurance for fishing trips to camps or lodges in remote places to cover nonrefundable deposits and air fares due or purchased well in advance of the trip. The InsureMyTrip website is the one I've used to pick out a policy. You only insure the non-refundable costs associated with the trip.  I think it has come out to be around 5% of those costs and usually includes varying amounts of additional coverage for things like medical emergencies, weather delays, and lost luggage. The earlier you buy it generally the better the deal and if you buy it within some specified short period like 14 days after your initial deposit you have additional coverage against pre-existing conditions.  I haven't had to make a claim, but I know several people that have due to injury or severe illness of a family member.

We bought it back in 2011 for a trip to Disney World. Ended up not using it but for the price it was nice to have for a "just in case ".

Insurance to cover the cost of non refundable expenses like outfitter costs.  Just about every guide service recommends it, I've just never had to use it before.  Some of these hunts are quite expensive, and you never know what could come up, preventing the trip from happening.  Most guides require a substantial amount to book the hunt, and the balance is due prior to the hunt.  If my kid gets sick, I get sick, work schedule changes, any number of things (depending on your coverage) I'd get my money back and only be out of whatever my policy costed.  I can't imagine tying up several thousand dollars in a trip and not spending $100-$200 to cover that cost.  U.S. or otherwise.

Thanks for the information, I'll look into this website.

Sounds kind of crazy. I hunt Missouri for 10 days each spring. Trip cost me about 400-500. I do get insurance on my 4 wheeler each spring, just for theft if it gets stolen while I'm hunting.
