Was lucky enough to kill a bird the first day of season in MO,so couldnt tote a gun until today.Well starting the first day, well actually a week or two before, this one gobbler has been on the same ridge and probably the same tree every morning.I tried him monday(18th)set up in the timber about 75 yds from his tree, and of course he went to the field.I have been in there 3 other times with my nephew to try and whack this bird.we get setup close to his roost easy enough, but if we are in the timber,he goes to the field,if we set up on the field,he goes in the timber.Same result today for me.Ive tried it all with this potlicker and now its a matter of principle. So tommorrow morning I gonna slip in very early and get as close as i dare to this sucker and just wait for him to make his move. With the lay of the terrain I think IF I get in there tight without spookin him,I'll be close enuff to greet him when he hits the ground no matter which way he decides to go.For better or worse, tuesdays hunt is gonna be over very early!!

came home with the same thing I left with. But today there were 2 gobblers in there.they roosted just a little farther away from me than i thought(or i was just to chicken to get any closer,i havent decided which yet :P)Gobbled great on the roost saw one fly down and he gobbled once on the ground and he was headed my way,but that was the last I saaw or heard from either.I'll be back at em sunday-tuesday,i doubt they are goin anywhere and nobody else is in there.Im still undecided whether to try and sneak in tight again because it is getting REALLY green in there and it is hard to see very far,or just wait em out in the field, and if they go the other way try to circle around on em.

Well, it sounds like you have a plan. Good luck!

I would go for the all part of the plan..Mike

Get in there real early and if he doesn't fly out before 6 o clock pull him off the roost with your shotgun and go have breakfast.  Just kiddin :TooFunny: :TooFunny: :TooFunny:      P.S it might work
Jakes are like scotch. They are not worth a darn until they age.

If you can stand the all day sit I think that they will eventually make it into the field. I know hunting them like deer ain't a lot of fun but it will work when it has too. Good luck with them

Depending how old your nephew is or if he can even hunt with you again, I would set him up on the field with a struttin deke and you setup in the woods and call. If he does his normal thing should go to your nephew.
Just my 2 cents

pappy

Come on big guy, pull those pappy's calls out and force him to ya...lol....good luck bro., we are flooded out here...

ya my nephew is 17 and can hunt on his own,but dont have much experience on his own,but i have toyed with the double setup.I was waitin for you to chime in pappy ;D.the ol box elder/titanium worked wonders on bird one but this bird cant decide what he likes.I may go with the semi strut jake and hen setup and just lay on the sweetest love talk that pot can muster out,and may throw in a jake gobble or two and try to work on the jealousy part of this bird. Its kinda gotten personal now that hes outwitted me several times, but itll sure be fun to step on his head!Hope everythings ok with you down there in south MO there pappy!
