Spacman has a bird too. When I get all of his pictures upload we will have his score too. I post some of the picture he sent me of his Nebraska turkey.

PANYHunter

That's not bad at all guys, keep up the good work.  I'll be out for the PA and NY openers Saturday and Sunday and I'm taking next week off to hunt as well.  Hopefully I will be able to get on some.    :z-guntootsmiley:

Yeah, just not had any success yet.

Tally updated but we don't have PANYHunter posting his score. Someone did say he had a bird to post right? If so that is the halfway point of the team 8 of 16.

I have one more tag to upgrade. Killed a gobbler this past week but I slid the gun over to  my buddy. He bowhunts only and had been having a hard time getting on birds. I called one in and as he settled into a draw thru the feild on his way I gave him the gun. It was not going to be a bowkill opportunity. Anyways it was irrelevant anyway. 19 lb 2 yr old that wouldn't of upgraded me so the tag remains in my pocket.

I am hunting another area May 26th-30th and that will be it. The guy I will be with has 2 tags and I have my one. First priority will be to get him his first ever turkey but I'll be looking for a long spurred late season bird for an upgrade. Taking a little break from birds for the walleye/pike opener this weekend. Hope to get on some of these northerns.....

What's happening with the other 8?

ncturkey

Here is PANYHunter's longbeard. He will post up a score soon.

Got an upgrade on my jake today.  I got to my spot this morning and didn't hear a single gobble, which surprised me because it was a crisp and clear 31 degrees and little wind.  So I hiked up to the field where I got my Jake the other day and gave out an owl hoot and again no response.  It was still early so I waited a little bit and I hooted again, nothing.  As I started to make my way up the hill one sounded off about 150 yards along the ridge.  I moved about 50 yards in the woods so I was straight across from him, I couldn't find  a tree big enough to sit at so I sat down by a large log that wasn't quite tall enough to hide my silhouette .  Soon there were a bunch of hens below him carrying on but he didn't gobble to them so I thought I had a chance.  I called a little bit to let him know I was there and I saw him drop almost straight down out of the tree.  I was surprised that he didn't glide down the ridge to be with the other hens.  They were still making a racket so I decided to get a little aggressive with my calling.  He never gobbled once and I wasn't sure if he would come in until I heard him spit and drum.  Now this really got my heart pumping and I started shaking.  I couldn't see him so i moved so i was better positioned for the shot.  I finally saw him about 50 yards out when he stepped into a little clearing.  He must have made me because he was standing at attention looking directly at me.  Luckily I had the gun up and pointed directly at him and when he started putting I let him have it.  This was a farther shot than I wanted to take but I have killed gobblers that far before so I felt confident.  He flopped around a little bit but not too much.  I haven't measured him officially yet but his beard is around 9 inches and spurs about an inch.  Not huge but I'll take it.  I will get the pics posted in the team score thread tonight.

That's great. We need to at least post 10 scores so 2 more of you fellas need to get it done. I am sure antiwheeze won't be insulted if we bump him out of top 10 so really 3 more guys need a longbeard down for the team of 1st year contest particpants to make a good showing. I am sure top teams will all have the full 10 birds scored.

who's still hunting????? Been pretty quiet in this thread! Man it was on fire before the season started. I hope it's because you're all sleep deprived like me ;D

gophert

Well my season is over with no upgrade.  :'(

I killed one opening morning and never pulled the trigger again.  This is the first year that I never found a bird without a hen.  I'm starting to think that every bird I set up on was either gay or way over sexed cause they just didn't cooperate with my calls.

Good luck guys and finish strong!

OntarioGobbler

hey you did your part gophert!!! We only need 3 more as it looks like pretty well everyone is posting 10 birds. There is a couple teams with anerage bird scores up in the high 60's. That's a big score to get a bird over 65 IMO. To average 68 (the top team so far I think) is just crazy. Having said that we are only ahead of 2 other teams with only 7 birds and one is a jake.

Get out there fellas! Call in sick! Send your wives to the spa for the day. Whatever it takes. You can't kill them from the couch!!!!! :you_rock:

ncturkey

Man I wish I was still hunting.

Just posted mine to the score thread.  59.25 was the total.  I still have a couple tags for NY and i should be able to get up there the next couple weekends.  Looks like spacman got a bird too but I dont think its in the score thread.  Good luck to those still hunting and congrats to those who are finished.  :z-guntootsmiley:
