Qualities of good or great sound

Explain your criteria, parameters and sound characteristics, as objectively as possible, of a pot call and a box call.  As opposed to saying this guy is the best or that guy is the best, tell us as literal as you can.

First off for me on box calls is do I have to "baby" it to get a two note yelp or do I have to use a lot of press down or tilt of the paddle to get it to yelp. A good box has a test will break on the note with no pressure on the handle just slowly swaying it back and forth.
Sound criteria??? I don't have any frequency response or resonance measurements just when I play it have I "heard" that before in the woods from live birds. For me it's all about the two note break on the yelp I've never had a box I could not get to cluck or purr. On a designated or ordered Raspy box I want a long  drawn out front note and a sharp quick break on end just like if you stepped off a drop off in a lake.

On pot calls there are so many good ones now that more and more I boil it down to which ones "grip" the best on strikers. I have some great sounding pots but some require constant resurfacing.

On a box, if it's 2 sided, I want it to have at least 4 different turkeys in it. I also want it to be able to play soft. On a pot call first thing I do when I pick one up is to see how quiet I can play it. If it doesn't sound like a turkey when played soft I don't want it.

What i look for in a box and pot call is WILL it make turkey's respond ... regardless how the yelps are and the amount of raspy it has .. All call makers have a different ear for tuning calls and wood combo's .. What i look for is the most natural sounding call i can purchase for ME and the sound i'm looking for, what's best for ME , it all has to do with choose in what you want to hear and play.

So I won't mention the pot call I use but I heard it being played at a turkey expo and could pick out it's sound until I walked up on the guy playing it, he was actually selling another product and just owned the call. Got the info on the call maker and have been killing birds since I bought it. It is my old reliable, the call that works and wouldn't hunt with out it as part of my game.

As I always say... I pick performance not "pretty"

My criteria is simple. The call has to be easy to play and must sound turkey to my ear.

Box calls have to be able to do soft tree yelps to hard cutting. I called in two toms that were nicknamed the brothers by my buddy in KY. He hunted them two years and could never get them to shooting range. Last day of season they were clearly moving away from us and I slammed the cutting. Sealed the deal with soft contented yelps, and watched them barrel toward us at full tilt up one of the most beautiful meadows I'd ever seen. Never used my diaphragm that day and we doubled - still among one of my favorite hunts.

As for pot calls, same thing. I want to use the same call for quiet or loud. I tend to call on slates better than any other surface. Wish I knew why.  I do have an anodized aluminum for windy days, and even a good crystal to cut through the wind.

All calls need to be easy to break from the high pitch to the rasp.

And no call works without "real turkey cadence"

All above are right on the money! If you are a collector looks matters. if your a hard core turkey hunter, it better work 1st. time & everytime  in any weather or it is in the can.

I raise Easterns. About 140 live currently. I swear they all have different vioces. Some very similar of coarse but, slightly different.

No matter the call I make it needs to break pretty hard to give me confidence in it. Cadence and emotion makes them flop.

Some days it takes a very high pitch call to make my Toms gobble.

No matter the call I want it to play super softly as well as broadcasting my love,anger, rally or other for all to hear.
