What do you suggest that fits the bill?

It's so hot this afternoon that I may go without.  It's a pretty long hike to get to where the birds roost and it'll be in the mid 90's

Ditched the vest mid season after wearing one for 20 years. I'm not missing it or any of its contents. Mouth calls and trumpet around the neck. If I get a wild hair I'll stick a pot in my pocket or carry a box

I too ditched the vest, partially for the heat.  I have since changed over to a backpack with a hydration bladder.  The frame in the back keeps a space between the pack and my back, which helps a lot.  This isn't exactly the answer to your question, but is what I chose to do.

Glenda satchel from this forum , was my ans.. to this problem... best money i've ever spent ....

For those folks who don't use a vest, how do you all carry water?  If I'm out for more than an hour or so I have to have some water, especially if it's hot and I'm doing some walking.

Not sure what the answer is. I recently picked up a Glenda satchel. Its nice but I wish it was a little smaller with a water bottle pouch on the end

I put a collapsible water bottle/bladder in my back pocket. If I'm going way back in new territory, I take a daypack with a water bladder. The daypack is to tote survival gear if I get hurt and have to spend the night. I hardly ever do that anymore.

Fanny pack with an added seat cushion.  Also might add a box call holster and pot call specific pouches if inclined to.  I have one set up and I find myself using it more than my vest.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
