I got a call from a landowner buddy in SC and he told me to come over this morning and i can bring a buddy. Today is my wifes birthday though and i know better than to hunt. Well to my surprise She told me to go and take jackson. I havent taken him in the morning yet, so this was his first morning hunt. I called Jbrown to see if he wanted to tag along. Birds were hammering it this morning. Heard 6 all around us. Had two in front, one very close. My buddy told me that a big gobbler had been shot at in his field close to wear I set up. After about a half hour The longbeard slips into the field from an opening across from us at about 80 yards. he could see the DSD. He started working left. the field dips and then goes up on a hill. The bird had slipped down and then come back up more to my left. He was in gun range but my gun wasnt on him yet. Jackson was watching over my knee. I told myself as soon as he puts his head down Im coming up with the gun. Well that didnt happen, He saw something and alarm putted and took off.

We moved and got on another bird, but before we slipped around we had seen some turkeys further down in the same field. We got to moving towards them, but I struck up another longbeard on the way to them. I had that bird CLOSE, but we couldnt see him to get the shot. He moved from the field into the woods with us and then started to go the other way. I decided we could get in the field and go past him and maybe get him to come back. Well Im low crawling under some honey suckle to get to the field and as soon as i get out, there are four turkeys about 100 yards down feeding. I put the binocs up and saw red heads. Bushwacking time. We jumped back over the fence and slipped down the side of the field . i popped out twice and the birds kept staying in front of me. i finally got caught up to them and slipped up to the edge. They heard me rustling leaves and started clucking and coming my way. I spend a ton of money on my SC tags and had three left with only a week left and this was Jacksons first real turkey hunt, so I smoked another jake so he could see what it is all about. ill take them this season. First gobbler Jackson has seen shot. The kid is pumped.

Thats great. I am struggling with my buddy trying to get him a good bird. I feel like a jake magnet. Glad you got to have the time with a youngun.
