Well, nothing like killing on the first and last day of season. It seems to take you from the highest high opening day to the lowest low over the next month, but you keep grinding, climb to the top one more time, and it makes it all worth it.
Probably one of the harder birds I've had the pleasure of working. Got on him at 0710, setup 4 different times and had him within 50 yards in 3 of those 4 sets but couldn't figure out what he wanted. I let him walk off and basically ran to the flat under the ridge and set up again over top of him what I thought was 150 yards. First yelp I made he was 35 yards over the bank, I sat for 15 min and never heard another peep, yelped again and he was 100 yards going away. Not knowing what else to do at this point I just started calling non stop and it worked. I called for 30 seconds straight and he gobbled every breath, getting closer quick and then I saw his head pop up and look, then he disappeared. Started calling again and he had moved to my left but I couldn't see him so I started calling faster and louder until he stuck his head up again. Slowly spun my gun, bead on head, and I watched him duck as I squeezed the trigger and knew without doubt I had missed him. So I sat there for 15 seconds just happy that I had got him in and won the hardest part of the battle, then I heard it, the infamous "flop to the bottom" sounds of wings beating dirt and it was off to the races. I caught up with him 100 yards down the hill and got hands on him. Sad day because I've gotta wait 11 months to do it again but this was a good one to end it on.

Well done

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons. However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
