Spring Creek Calls

After nearly 3 weeks and 3 states I finally arrived home yesterday to start my Michigan hunt. I missed a gobblers head at 13 paces on the second day of the Missouri season, I just know I jerked the trigger instead of squeezing. I've seen grouse take longer to get airborne. Slipped out on the deck at sundown last night and within a few minutes one gobbled right behind the house. Was setup this morning early as the woods are just beginning to green up. Some light calling with a Lonnie Sneed slate let him know where I was and he gobbled to every noise in the woods including deer that were downwind and blew a few times. I saw him fly down to my left from about a hundred yards. From that point he would only gobble at crows and my bloodwood over limba box, which I was protecting from a light rain  with my fanny pack. I've shot several birds in the area and knew once I saw him he'd be in range. The last short series of yelps brought an immediate response. We saw each other about the same time as I moved my gun to his outstretched neck. He putted but was too late as the TSS #9's were on the way. At 31 paces he barely flopped leaving a lone feather at the kill sight. I shot him with my ATI Cavalry 20 gauge o/u from the top barrel with a Carlson's. 565 tube and #9 TSS. Bottom barrel had a .575 Carlson's with HVWT #7's.

The bird was a typical 2 year old for this area, 20.5 lbs, 9.5" beard and 3/4" spurs.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

The addiction will cost you time and money and alienate those close to you. I can give you the names of a dozen addicts — myself included — whose wives begin to get their hackles up a week before turkey season starts and stay mad until a week after it closes.

sweet gun, my dad bought the 410 variant to rabbit hunt with. id like to get the 20 just to have, but im a hold off for now. The 410 dads got with 7.5s is nasty on a bunny. Many fell infront of the beagles this year with it.

I've shouldered many Turkish made o/u's and these ATI Cavalry's felt the best by far to me. POA/POI on my gun are spot on. Not sure how they'd hold up to shooting thousands of rounds but my little gun will never see that many rounds.
