Heavy 13 7s vs. Fed. Heavyweight 7s

Does anyone prefer the h-13 7s over the hwt. 7s. I have quite a few of both and was thinking about going with the h-13s only because of the Fed.s are no longer made. I think the h-13 7s shoot more consistently in my 20 gauges than the Federals do. H-13 will not match the federals best numbers but seem to shoot consistently in the mid 130s in my guns. The Federal Heavyweight has done as high as 171 but will rarely do it on consecutive shots even when swabbed in between. Just curious what other people have seen. Also, I know about TSS just not interested at this time.

go with the H-13 #7's. sounds like your gun likes them and there available, don't get caught up in the numbers game. 130 with H-13 7's is gonna do the job perfect.... JMO

Thanks for the reply. I have a single shot H and R that likes both ok. My 870 20 gauge will not pattern the federals. Does better with h-13 6s and 7s than it does with the Federals. Kind of odd to me.

CB on the run

I had just the opposite results out of my Rem 1100 20 ga.  It is ported, a little forcing cone work but a standard Rem xfull extended choke.  150's with the Federals, 180's with the Hevishot and 200's with the Nitro straight 7s.  I have 11 boxes of the Federals but did purchase 3 lbs of TSS which I'll roll over the summer.--Bill

Thanks. Doesn't seem many people discuss the H-13 in 20 gauge any more. I guess because the new rage is the TSS. I am contemplating selling all my Federal Heavyweight 7s and sticking with H-13. I just don't want to sell and then be sorry for it later. I am definitely not a pellet hound. If I can consistently get 120-135 out of any 12 gauge or 20 gauge I am happy. I just don't get the same numbers consistently with the Federal Heavyweight.

CB, 180s out of heavy shot in a 20 gauge is really good. I wouldn't change a thing.

Thanks but it already sold in the classifieds a couple days ago.

What does the 20-24" pattern look like?

ShootingABN!

Not being consistent are you cleaning the barrel every shot..... Just to see the absolute best pattern you gun can shoot?

tnanh

Yes I am brushing or bore  snakeing and sometimes both. It is not even consistent for me on each first shot after cleaning and using denatured alcohol. Mostly with the H&R. It has never shot high numbers in my 870 youth no matter what choke I use. A couple of weeks ago it would barely break 100 in the H&R and finally it shot 144. 144 would make me happy if it would do it all the time.
My youth 870 is kind of odd to me. It shoots better patterns with H-13 6 than it does with H-13 7 or Federal Heavyweight 7. I have killed several turkeys with the H-13 6 in that gun and those 6s make me smile.
The Federal Heavyweight 7 has shot a 177 and a 171 on back to back shots one day. I probably shoot my turkey loads a little more than most because I would rather have consistency and repeatability from my patterns more than high numbers of holes.

Why not just continue to shoot the #6s. Thats a sledge hammer.

Hevi 13 7s in my remington out shoots fed 7s number wise. I just like feds.

I have never counted the 20-24 but it looks ok just not great with the limited # of pellets in a 20 gauge. I looked at a shot size chart on here the other day and if it was accurate the h-13 7s at 1 1/4 ounce have more pellets in them than the Federal HWT. 7s with 1 1/2 ounce of shot in them. I wish someone else would do the math also.

I probably will shoot the 6s in my 870 but in my single shot I would like to shoot the 7s. When I posted this I was still contemplating selling the heavyweights and see if other people were shooting the H-13 instead because of pattern consistency.

WyoHunter

I like Fed Hwt 7s over hevi-13 7s but either one does it for me.
If I had a dollar for every gobbler I thought I fooled I'd be well off!
