I took off Friday morning and got my tom.
I took grandson #2 out Saturday and we found one who popped out from behind a bush at 3 yards, resulting in a jump, a running turkey and a miss.
Rested on Sunday and my truck battery was dead Monday morning. Took oldest grandson Tuesday and had one gobbling good 150 yards from the truck! Set him up, walked down the road and told him to shoot it when it walked by. Despite probably 40 gobbles on the way, the boy kept the gun in his lap until the tom was 15 yards in front of him. The move to shoulder the gun busted the bird who ran off a bit and gobbled another 50 times just out of range.
The boy finally tried to put a sneak on and that didn't work!
We walked down the road a bit to another one who had been gobbling at us from down the hill. He was much closer than we thought and he walked around a bend in time to see us. Busted!
We went to another spot and were walking down the road to a pipeline and, you guessed it, he was in the road strutting. Busted again!
They were gobbling real good here for this late in the game but that don't mean they'll be on the menu tonight!
