Saturday, after work, heading down to Southern Iowa with 2 tags, and still have 2 tags for Kansas. Hoping to get the job done in 9 days of hunting. Weather is suppose to be crappy, so going to lug in the blind Saturday night, and get it set up for Sunday in the general roost area, where they were last year. Hopefully I can roost some, and not get busted going in. They can be in 2 roost areas with blind between them so should be good location.  Usually I set up edge of woodline facing pasture, but last year they didn't leave woods, so that's where I'm putting the blind. Should be an interesting hunt. This piece of property gives me a run and gun option that I don't have in a lot of the land I've hunted in Iowa, and with wet woods, I should be able to quietly do that. The land hasn't been hunted this year, and never has much pressure, so that's defintely a plus.

I actually feel a little pressure. I need to pop one Sunday, and get a good start. :you_rock:

You know the land Jay but here are a few things to consider using a blind.

I look for small openings that on cold or cool days the sun will shine there warming the bird up.
I always place my back to the sun - even in the woods.
I place my decoys (if you use them) no more than 10-13 yards away and strutting toms are 6 to 8 paces directly in front of me.

I never use the blind as 360 viewing.
I blacken behind me so I can not be highlighted or cause no shadow as I move within the blind.
I also keep the tiniest of windows open to poke my gun out of. They never see it coming.
Keeping it dark
I never need to wear a head net or blacken my face.

I placed my blind on that Upper Mich hunt I just posted on a new spot never before hunted by me. I did a bit of scouting and this was a fairly high traffic area due to foot prints found. I did not have permssion to hunt the field and was asked to stay off of it. But I was ont he eastern edge as that was where all the sign was, the snow was gone in the edge of that field, and I had a nice little snow free area 30 yards inside the woods.

Just some things for you to ponder.

Jay,  :anim_25: and try and stay dry. Tomorrows youth day in NJ I'm gonna have the same conditions. I still can't wait. My boy is pumped.
