Today was my last scouting trip before New Jersey opens on April 23rd. My home State of New York opens on May 1st and after 30 hikes since January, I can plainly see by the very widespread scratchings that the Turkey population is going up in SOUTHREN NY and North NJ. Seeing please ty of wild turkeys as well.   Over on Hunting my.com- some members are not seeing much sign.  I just this morning had a hen fly over my car from a ridge above. The 2nd hen I have seen fly in 2 days!

Hit a wrong key there-- Huntingny.com. One member is not seeing any sign of wild turkeys and will take a 70 Mile drive to further search!!  Don't know what area of New York he is from-- but like I wrote-- SOUTHREN NY Turkeys came through those 5 March NorEasters just fine.

Check out the post-- Finally--- at Huntingny.com. in Turkey Hunting. I don't think North New York fared as well.

Seeing and hearing more here too.  Hasn't helped me kill one yet...
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

My wifes family is in southern new jersey.  When I first hunted the farmland down there (2010 or so) you could almost close your eyes and be able to hit one.  The last 6 years or so it has been pretty bleak. He told me the other day things are looking way up and he is seeing a lot more birds. No one is really sure what was going on to cause the decline.  This pic was taken late march 2012 when the population he had was already on the decline. It is nice to hear they are coming back.
