Will a big band of jakes flog, peck and whip up an old gobbler?  I saw one that was ragged and not doing well, had a lot of feathers gone and didn't fly.

Ya they definitely will...Or another Tom could have beat the heck out of him.

tomstopper

Yep they might be young but when grouped together, they can whip a gobbler all day

There were 12 in one group.  I hate to shoot jakes, but they may need thinning.

I watched a group of jakes kill a tom in NE a few years back.  Pretty ugly.

Ain't no such thing as too many jakes.

Yup!!! Next year.

A group of 8 jakes run off any solo Gobbler on one of my farms. The Toms are together now, 4/5 and rule the roost now. Actually makes it tougher to hunt. I had one patterned until the jakes drove him to flock up with the other Toms. Sucked, I wanted him for my wife's first bird. Oh well, fool them all so we can double now  :funnyturkey:

Those Jake's are next year's two year olds and the next seasons limbhangers.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

12 jakes makes 12 2 year olds next year gonna be a loud spring for you next year

The Toms have indeed bunched up.  Saw 3 longbeards with 17 hens yesterday.

Absolutely.  In fact, I've seen big bands of jakes run off GROUPS of adult birds.

Fatbeard

See it happen quite often. Jakes will run a big gobbler all over the county.
