was wondering... guys shooting new federal tss shells.  3 1/2" should have around 800 (9 shot bb's) wonder why the pattern numbers are so low in the 10 pattern count seems off... am I missing something?  i'm interested in shooting tss but trying to justify the price from my current longbeard ammo

tha bugman

well there are plenty of pellets outside of the 10 as well that can be counted in the halo of shot around the 10" circle

DirtNap647

are you guy getting that much outside the 10?

Gobspur

I'm getting ~ 50/50 split, 350 in 10, another 300-325 in 10-20.

How much breast damage do you see with TSS and a 50/50, 350/350 split?  I've seen one breast shot bird and the feathers and shot are hard to remove from the meat.

I' getting 402 in the !0' circle @ 40 yards with the 3" Federal TSS #9 thru my Remington 1187/Carlsons .640 turkey choke.

Another example of the Federal TSS loving tight chokes. I think that's why you are seeing some low count Federal patterns. People are trying to use the knowledge gained with handloaded TSS shells, that those loads like more open chokes, but the Ferderal TSS loads like tight chokes.

This is true. My hand loads all like a more open choke with the exception of a Indian creek choke. My 20 ga Benelli shooting a 1-5/8 ounce tss #9 load was devastating with a Indian creek.555

Maybe so, but Ill stick with a more open pattern.  See no reason for more than ~350 in 10in.  I'd rather have a nice even 20 in pattern.  Dont plan on shooting far.

How was your POA/POI with the IC .555 in the benelli 20? I have same set up but not had a chance to test it yet.

Well I killed two birds last week in the 35-40 yd range - no breast damage.  Only found one TSS pellet and it wasn't lodged in the breast meat.

Shooting a 500/300 pattern I have not had any issue. I think its less of an issue with TSS as those pellets have a better chance of passing through, either way a breast shot bird is going to contain some damage.

No need to shoot a 12 with 3.5inch shells. Im getting 391 pellets in a 10inch circle at 40 yards with my 20ga and Jebs.

I talked to the guys at Rob Roberts when were were in AR snow goose hunting - they have done a ton of testing with their chokes on TSS - give them a call and talk to Doug if you want to see what they have been up to...
