My MS season so far

MS bird #1
I have had an enjoyable season so far in MS. This is the first bird I killed last Wednesday. I called this gobbler up early Wednesday morning and as usual he decided to be a turkey and come in behind me over my left shoulder. He got to 30 yds directly to my left and stood there drumming for what seemed like an eternity before walking off. I decided to not swing on him and try him again in the afternoon.
I left work around 4:30 and got to where I thought I heard his last gobble that morning. I sat down around 5:15 and let out some soft clucks and purrs. I hadn't even had time to really get situated or get my gun up when I heard drumming in pretty tight with me. He rounded the corner of the road and was on top of me before I could get my gun up. I let him keep coming and when he passed behind an oak I got the gun up and shot him at 18 yds. Was one of my quickest afternoon hunts for sure. Was a 2 year old gobbler and a good way to get the season rolling.
MS bird #2
My second gobbler of the season was about as textbook and exciting of a hunt as you can have. I got in early to a spot a couple of birds had been roosting in. One bird started up gobbling pretty early and was on fire. I was at a friends place that is mostly steep hardwood ridges falling off into bottoms. Using the hills I was able to get in to what I would guess to be around 60-70 yards from the gobbler and set up just right before the crest of the ridge.
I gave a few soft tree yelps and immediately got a response so I shut up and waited for him to get on the ground. He pitched out into the bottom. Once on the ground he continued to gobble pretty good. I answered him once and got cut off by another bird coming up the branch about 200 yds away. Once this turkey gobbled the bird I was initially on didn't say another word. I continued to purr and cluck along with some scratching in the leaves and a few minutes later I hear drumming coming up the ridge. The gobbler about blew my hat off with a gobble just on the other side of the crest at 30 yds. (I am pretty confident there is nothing more enjoyable than a turkey gobbling and strutting in tight with you) Both gobblers came over the ridge and I was able to shoot the strutter at 25 yards. He was a nice 3 or 4 yr old gobbler with 1 3/8" hooks.
The birds are on fire in our neck of the woods right now and I am looking forward to a great Easter weekend spending time with family, worshiping the Lord, and of course spending some time in the turkey woods. Good luck to yall that have seasons opening soon. I really enjoy seeing all of yalls pictures and hunts.
