I have an SP 10 23" with a comp n choke .695. Have run winchester supreme #5 lead turkey loads through it with good results. Have not turkey hunted with it for several years but it is my go-to waterfowl gun with #2 steel and an IC choke.

Are there better choke and load combos out there that yall have had good luck with? I have thick skin so I have no problem with constructive criticism. Thanks!

Please shoot that shell and post the results here. I have some Federal 2 0z. #5 shot turkey loads that I tried in a single shot 10 with a .685 Sumtoy choke. Got 29 hits in a 10 inch circle at 40 one time. It is the worst performing shell I have ever shot.

Will post some #s next week when I get out and shoot.

Shot it this afternoon. Winchester Supreme lead turkey loads (early 2000s batch) #5 10 ga. 123 pellets nice and uniform on a 10" circle @ 40yds; Comp N choke .695. That was the best one.  I did shoot at the dot within a pre drawn 10" circle. The pellet count was the actual count. I did not make a new circle in the most dense area and count. Got the Comp N Choke sometime between 2004-2008 I believe. Gun and barrel were cleaned inside and out after waterfowl season. Inside of the barrel was mirror clean before today

2 other shots at turkey head targets I drew on the back of construction plans paper showed from just below the waddles, up the neck to the top of the head and beak tip had 41 pellets on 1 target and 34 pellets on another. Both @ 40 yds.

Wow I had 450 hits 10" circle 40 yards with Nitro TSS 7.5s.Primos jelly head.

Tell me about it. Technology in chokes and shot has come a long way. I am looking to have a choke built and move to a better load.

I have never patterned my waterfowl chokes. I shoot a Hastings IC for ducks and the factory Rem imp modified at geese. 15-45 yds over the decoys and to the edge of them and passing shots with #2 steel for ducks and then the same with #BB for geese. Its like shooting lead in the old days for waterfowl, it hammers em "no wiggle" dead. First started using it to clean up crippled divers at the coast with #2 steel. Then realized the error of my ways.

My sp-10 is a turkey killer but tried to pattern steel for duck hunting the Outer Banks up around Ocracote and it was pathetic! Plus I had already bought a case of RemSteel!

Gotta be something that will run it for ya. You are welcome to try out my chokes if you like to pattern it. Just cover the shipping to and from.

The following is only about old school classic 10ga. lead loads from the big 3. I have found that the old red hull 2 1/4oz. Winchester Supreme Double X #4 or #5 pattern the best in all my 10ga. guns. I have a case of #4 and a case of #5. I own a H&R 176, Browning BPS, two Spanish doubles, and an Ithaca Mag 10 with a 30" SP-10 barrel. The BPS and Mag 10 with Hastings .695" and #5 are a great combo. With #4 I use a .705" in the Mag 10 and a .700" in the BPS. The Remington Premier Magnum #4 ammo dosen't pattern worth beans in any of the guns. I think that short 1 5/8oz. wad they use is the main problem, allowing the remaining 5/8oz. shot charge to rattle down the bore. The old Federal Premium 2 1/4oz. loads are just a small step behind the Winchester, and sometimes tie with it in specific guns.

Those 2 1/4oz. Remington Premiers have been the best #4 loads I ever tried but the Win XX #5 2 1/4 oz. load in my .695 Hastings was one bad cat. Wish I had some more of those as the  Federal 2 oz. #5 loads I have tried were terrible.

I have no idea why the manufacturers went to a 2 oz. load in the 10 but kept the heavy loads in the 3 1/2" 12.

Still shooting 2 1/4 oz. Remington Nitro Mags and Premiers along with some of the heavy #4 Winchesters in my Comp-N-Choke XX.

Need to work with the Federal Premium 2 1/4 oz 4s to see how they do, have about 5 or 6 boxes of those.
