Just depends on what you are looking for your final footage or its use.
There is a great difference between "digital" zoom and optical zoom. Digital zoom is a distortion of the optical picture, optical zoom is done by a series of lens acting in unison to bring the object in view "closer". Digital zoom take the optical picture and digitally increases the "closeness" by dividing the pixels of the image to "zoom" in (this is distoring the original image)
I never look at 'Digital" zoom, Optical is your true reference to base picture/video zoom by. Now as most tech has gone to the digital formats there is some other knowledge to this you will need to learn and a bit on the list. So 1X is your true image, 3X Digital is distorting and 5X Digital even more so...
For us the Tactacam replaced our GoPros, but it is still just B-Roll. We use sevral Canon Video Cameras to film with from Vixa HF G30 & 40 and a XA30, they are each setup with their own accessories.
Like I said final use of filming or quality of your footage will be part of your choice. If you are just sharing with family, friends or Facebook and YouTube you should be fine.
Here's my camera, not too deep in to the pocket on cost...
