New turkey gun can't decide between 835 and Weatherby 459

I am in the market for a new turkey gun and am trying to decided between a 835 or a Weatherby SA 459. Would like some opinions

Weatherby for sure. If it's only used for turkey they don't make a better one imo

If its a dedicated Turkey gun, the SA-459 . I retired my remingtons and only use the weatherby .Lee

I've read reviews that the "tactical" version of the SA-459 would only cycle with magnum rounds.  I know it's a turkey gun so most folks are probably only shooting 3" through it, but does the regular version cycle o.k. with low powered loads?

I'll be the first to go the other way.  835 for me.  I've owned one for ten years and she has killed many birds.  The 835 has plenty of aftermarket chokes to choose from and patterns most shells really well.  The safety is easily accessible for left or right shooters, on the aft top of the receiver.  They handle 2 3/4, 3 and 3 1/2 inch shells equally well.  My advice is shoulder both of them.  See what they feel like and which one fits you the best.  Good luck.

Got the weatherby in 20ga for my wife and I use it on every hunt she isn't with, patterns great with a cheap carlsons choke and cycled bird shot up to turkey loads fine at the bench only shoot turkey loads in the field

I can tell you it comes with 2 pistons to interchange depending on load. Lite and heavy.  But like you stated most, including me, will likely never run a 2.75 shell through the gun. I just keep the heavy piston in the gun since turkey loads is all I use mine for.

835 is built like a tank and throws great patterns.  It's a turkey slaying legend.

Love my Weatherby.

It did not cycle the cheap birdshot very well at first with the light piston, I think it just needed to be broken in.  Probably 25 rounds and it cycles fine now.  Like Boss said, it will always be a turkey only for me.  It also came already set up the way I wanted.
