Is the 3" 20 ga round obsolete for turkey hunting?

With some of the 2 3/4 loads being developed now, there looks to be no need in 3" shell anymore.

 Maybe 2 3/4 will be obsolete one day. They can always make a 3" load reduced recoil. To many buys the 3"

Exactly, saw a 1 5/8 posted last weekend on FB, that was 1285 fps.

Can't see that it would be going away... Some will always want the 3" load.

I don't think it will ever be obsolete.

I for one like options. I like being able to shoot my 2.75" rolled hand loads or if I run out, grabbing a box of Winchester 5's and go hunting.

Same thing goes for 12 gauge. Prefer the option of all 3 lengths.

Not saying obsolete as in they won't make 3" guns anymore, just saying that it doesn't make sense to shoot 3" loads when we are pushing the envelope attaining near 1300 fps with fairly heavy payloads, and well within safe pressures.

  Not sure I understand. Everything else being equal, the shorter shell will have higher pressure than the longer one.

I'm not talking equal. I'm talking about 2 3/4" shells that will run in any 20 ga made, and preform deep into 3" Load territory. All within pressures that would allow you to shoot it in your granddaddy's 100 yr old 2 3/4" only gun. A 3" round won't do that.

The 2 3/4  1 5/8 oz load of TSS 9 shoots just as well at the 3" with the same load. Just now I do not have to trim the hulls.

I wouldn't think that you would have to trim a 2 3/4" hull.

New 2 3/4 loads are decreasing the necessity of a 3" payload. Same can be said about the relationship of all other gun / ammo combos.

10 ga vs. 12 ga 3.5
12 ga. 3.5 vs. 12 ga. 3
12 ga. 3 vs. 12 ga. 2.75
12 ga. ? vs. 20 ga. 3
etc, etc
