Tss choke recommendations

I picked up a box of apex 12 gauge tss 3" 2 oz 7.5s and going to pattern if the weather ever gets in decent shape lol. Anyways I have a kicks .655 and a .665  and I know they're supposed to be lead only. I do have the factory full choke that come with the gun I can try. I know apex and nitro both  recommend a .665 Indian Creek and I feel like that might be to tight at 20 yards with tss and looking for other input. 40-50 yards would be a max long shot. Gun is a escort turkey extreme and uses Remington choke tubes. Thanks in advance!

First of all, unless you plan to hunt a state that doesn't allow shot smaller than #8, you will be better served with 8s or 9s. TSS 7.5s have a huge, and I mean huge excess of energy at the expense of pattern density compared to 8s or 9s. I realize it is difficult for folks new to TSS to wrap their minds around using such small shot sizes, but those of us that have been shooting it for 10 years will all tell you the same thing. In fact, guys shooting the smaller gauges (410s) are using 9.5s and 10s with completely satisfactory results.

Anyway, back to your question. IC .665s put up tremendous numbers with TSS 9s if you want the tightest possible patterns, although they may be a little too tight for 7.5s. Again, long experience has shown that slightly more open chokes yield better hunting patterns after you get over the how many can I get in the 10" circle phase. Most experienced TSS shooters shoot chokes in the .675-.690 range. Four hundred pellets in the 10 sounds impressive, but often comes at the expense of an even 10-20" pattern. TSS does not require as much choke as other shot materials. And you are correct, Kicks does not recommend HTL shot in their chokes.

this was sent in by Andy.  It is 3 inch 7.5 x 9 Nitro.

I had thought about trying the 7.5x9s and some straight 9s and seeing which I liked the best of the 3 so I probably will try that. I was figuring an IC in the .675-.680 range but figured I'd get other opinions.  Thanks!

That is damn impressive to get 402 pellets in a while 10 inch circle at 40 yards, but that's kind of my worry is it being that tight at 40, I'll have no room for error at 20. But I guess I  won't know until I try some chokes out lol

Try that factory full. It may give you exactly what your looking for. You could also try a HS Strut Undertaker. For what it sounds like your wanting you do not need to spend much for a choke.

open up to 675 it will give you a good even pattern.    Alot of the guys just want everything they can get out of a gun if they going to spend that much on a shell.

This reminded me I have an undertaker choke thats 10 or 12 yeaes old, so I dug it out last night, it says lead shot only though. I did some looking and the new ones can shoot hevishot so I may try one of them. Thanks!

Thanks I'll probably do some looking and see what I can find in .675. I may end up just going with a .665 anyways and just aim real tight! I know I should probably try to get the most out of it I can for the price, but to me in the big scheme of things a $8-$9 shell is a small percentage of what I'll spend on turkey hunting stuff. Thanks for the info!
