What's your favorite wood to use on a slate surface, and why?

Hickory for me because it produces clear notes.

Rosewood, but that's not always guaranteed. It really depends on the striker and call matching up.

looks like some forgot the why lol
i carry 3 strikers 1 fiber rod 2 dymond wood 3 black locust
Why
1 gives nice mellow raspy tone
2 can realy get nasty raspy and sharp toned
3 nice medium tone runs little higher pitched
and of course any three will run soft toward middle of call
Not taking orders for calls at this time ,,,but my have some on hand ,,,I Dont sell strikers
I do like copper pot calls,,,,Get them While u can

Pacific Dogwood, Purpleheart, Zebrawood, Persimmon, Canarywood, and Locust are all good on slate. Personally, my Fowler Pacific Dogwood is the leader of the pack by a pretty fair margin though. It just has that sound I'm looking for when it comes to slate.

I like a raspy so tulipwood, dymondwood and Ipe give me that on just about any surface. If I wanted to run slate a little more on the clear side I would go with cedar or dogwood.
