Wanting to try a red dot.

Never had one. Have a 12 BPS and a 20 870 youth that I'd love to add one to eventually. Williams Firesights have treated me pretty darn well for a while now but in the heat of the moment the "fuller" fiber optics on them will blend together sometimes especially at range. Trying to aim at the waddles turn into the whole bird practically being covered up at 30+ yards.

thats the advantage of a ff3 you can push the botton and make the dot smaller or larger. also you dont have to worry about getting everything even, level, etc once its sighted in its good. They are great for kids, i have noticed the last 2 kids i have taken just love looking at that red dot, they also have got to pull the trigger and both have killed birds.

I tried the FF3, great sight.
I've had red dots on other AR platforms and just prefer them over all.

A lot of practice with both eyes open and you will love any of them.

The Bushnell TRS is a great sight, for about the same money as a FF3 you could look at Holosun red dot.

The Holosun will adjust itself to lighting conditions and has a circle or dot reticle.

It is also available with solar dot. No batteries to worry about.

Just a few options, remember if you look through some red dots indoors the dot will sometimes appear blurred or distorted. Will even make it look bigger too.

It clears up to a sharp dot outdoors, this may vary between you and I. Just my experience.

Been using a Truglo Tru-Brite for 5 seasons now with good success. I've also got an Ultradot mounted on my new Weatherby SA-459 that I'm gonna try for the first time this season. It's more expensive than the Burris but it gives you more brightness settings & it's a little bigger which I like better for the larger view through the glass. For a cheap red dot that gives you a multitude of brightness settings & two choices of color for the dot it would be hard to beat the Truglo Tru-Brite in my opinion.

I really like the auto adjustment of the F3. Been running the Burris F3 3moa for 2 years now and it would be tough to back to a bead now.

I tried the Bushnell TRS and did not like it for turkey hunting. Felt restricted with the tube style sight. On an AR or something you will be shooting paper with, I think it best serves its purpose there.

I decided to spurge this year and bought a Trijicon RMR RM06.  Pricey, but if you look around you might find a Type 1 for around $350.  The Type 2 is around $600 and just a little rich for my blood.   I mounted it on my Remington 11-87 youth 20 ga.  If it patterns well I just might have to lay down the Encore.  I sure love the sight picture.

What mount did you use to attach the RMR to your 11-87?

Cabela's sold the sight with a free mount.  Unfortunately it was for a Picatinny rail and I had a Weaver rail on the 11-87.  I had to buy a Picatinny rail.  A Weaver or a Picatinny mount will work on a Picatinny rail, but a Picatinny mount will not work on a Weaver rail.  If I was younger and had more $, I would convert all of my guns to Picatinny, it is superior to Weaver.  The mount came with two configurations, the low mount that I prefer on the 11-87 and a higher mount that allows for co-witnessing with the iron sights on an AR-15.
