Joey and I went this morning to Shingle Springs CA. We had no gobbling close at daylight. We heard what sounded like a ban of Jake 3/4 of a mile SE from us so we decided to head that way. I kew we wouldn't be able to go all the way to them because of the property line. We finally made it to the area I wanted to be and I called and the turkeys gobbled. Still about 1/2 mile away. I kept them gobbling for awhile. We were deciding if we were going to leave them and try another area when a gobble rang out about half the distance. He gobbled a couple more times and we decided to set up. This turkey gobbled good but had a long way to come. The cross a big creek and a fence line. I could tell by his gobbles that he was moving down the ridge toward our direction. He got almost to the creek and I decided to go silent. After about 5 minutes of silence he gobbled on his own. Then gobbled again, and again. I knew he was interested and it was about this time I thought we might have a chance at this turkey. The next time he gobbled he was across the creek and coming up our way. The he sounded like he was heading to the right. I decided to call again as I wanted to bring the turkey to Joey's location as he was downhill from me. I was running the camera about 50 yards away. It was really open and green in this area. I finally got him in the viewfinder about the time Joey shoots. This gobbler was small, 16 lbs, 3/4" spurs, an 7" beard but he was alot of fun.
