but I probably enjoyed the season as much as anybody. I had a new (to me) gun to go into the season with so I got to do all the preseason check outs. I hunted a new place so I got to do all the preseason scouting. Every morning I got to watch the sun come up and listen to the woods wake up. The first morning I had 8 birds gobbling within a half mile and I settled on the close one. Of course I did. I got hung up on this old boy for the season and he was a worthy challenge. I only saw him once and he's a good one. Where I set up, about 60 yards there's a steep drop of about 100 yards down and then it flattens out for 25 to 30 yards and then back up again. He'd roost about half way up the other side. He'd gobble on the roost but get quiet when he flew down except for clucking and gobble every once in a while. One afternoon, I got him up on top of the hill on my side, strutting at 60 yards. Then I heard a hen clucking and she walked past me at 15 or so yards headed to him. I sure wanted to shoot her in the back of the head ????. Anyhow, game over for that day. I probably could have slipped down to his strut zone and got him by being quiet and waiting but that old boy is a boss and deserves better than to be ambushed. He'll hopefully make it past predators and old age and be there next year. I've got friends that give me meat so I don't have to kill one to have some meat. I also got to call in some hens and aggrevate them. That's always a hoot ????. Sorry for the long read but I enjoyed my season a lot.

Glad you had a great season. Agree, nothing like turkeys gobbling and seeing another sunrise ...

Happy

Love the fact you can appreciate the experience even if it's not a year you take one home. Good luck on the old boy next year.

Sounds like you put in the time chasing a wise old bird and I give you credit for that. Nothing beats many days in the turkey woods. Already looking forward to next spring.

Some of my best hunts ended without a shot and I've learned more from the ones I never could outsmart than the ones that ran to the call you never forget the really difficult gobblers  no matter if  you kill them or not there memory lasts.
If you make everything easy how do you know when your good at anything?

That's what it's all about!!  You definitely have it figured out. Enjoying your time in the woods.

Thats the spirit. Heck I consider it a good morning when I call an owl in.  I learned a long time ago it's not about the kill. As each year passes, I'm thankful for another season I'm able to chase gobblers and make memories.

A sunrise is worth it all to me...

Sounds like a fun year.  Fun is a relative term for some.

I say a prayer every morning before the ducks start flying and I have started saying it at that moment I have set up and am waiting to hear the song birds and gobblers wake up. Helps me put the day in perspective.

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118v24
Psalms 118v24: This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
