Hello all I have a question for you I have a winchester 1300 shot turkey 18 inch. barrel with factory extra full extended ported factory choke and I have patterned winchester 3 inch HV 1 7/8 oz. 1210 FPS loads out of it at 40 yards and patterns look good will it be enough to kill a tom at 40 yards and under and thanks again.

If you have more than 80 hits in a 10" at 40, your good to go. If not, find the distance you can consistently get 80 in a 10 and call it you maximum effective range. It helps to shoot large sheets of paper and draw your circles after the shot.

Good luck,

I kill them that far with a 20ga shooting #4 & 5Pb - you will do fine with your big honkin' 12ga 3" Mag!

Thanks guy's I was just wondering if the short barrel would have enough killing power   at 40 yards I will try to keep my shots limit at 35 yards and thanks again.

The barrel length is not a concern as to killing power. That is a function of the shell, shot size and velocity. The pattern is the other part of the equation.
