made this Bowie .. 14" long 8" blade from an old Nicholson farrier rasp using four different antlers for the handle....Elk, Mule, White Tail and Sambar......

if you were to make a knife without heat treating it and tempering it yes, it would snap. I heat treat to 1550 degrees (until a magnet will not stick to it) then after 30 minutes I temper it at 450 degrees for 6 hours to bring it back to a workable form.
