Mag cap sling stud?

I have a mag cap on my 870 that needs a sling stud.  Is there a way to do it that will not cost a ton of money?  New caps are $30.

Drill and tap it, then buy the  stud

If the cap is not too thick, you could drill a hole to accept this stud. But will need room for thin washer and nut if not too thick? Just snug nut and locktite, so it swivels.
