Standing here waiting for daylight after parking my four wheeler about half a mile away. Right before daylight I hear a 4 wheeler ripping up the road below me.  He shuts it of and I hear him fir up a crow call that sounds like a kazoo. Shortly thereafter five deer come stampeding by me and I hear two birds flush out bind me. A few minutes later some more deer come by. Then silence for a few. Then the crow call/kazoo blares forth again about 75 yards behind me. Some more birds flush below and to my left. A squirrel comes scurrying by wildeyed. Then out comes the box call. A few sultry yelps break forth that caused me to cringe and my eyes to water slightly. So here he comes over the ridge to my left in plain sight. Cutting as he goes. I just sit here mesmerized by this display of turkey hunting prowess. He is still cutting away with his box call as I type this. I think as soon as Mr box call hero moves on I will find elsewhere to hunt.

Did he carry a nickel plated double barrel and wear a white cap? Sounds like our big city turkey thug.

You should have taken notes so you could learn from his amazing abilities.

This seems to be a common practice used by self proclaimed turkey killers......

I took notes. Unfortunately I didn't have paper so I had to write on my arm. No I am turkeyless and look like I should be in a biker gang. On to greener pastures. Hopefully anyways

Could he possibly be one of the original turkey thugs? Sounds like they may be filming. Oh well , he will get tired and head back to hunt the private farm where you shake a jug of corn and the birds trip over one another coming.

growing up in MS I cut my teeth hunting public WMAs with my dad.  It wasn't nothing like it is today, but we had some pretty good encounters.  One of the best ones I remember we were set up in this pretty oak flat on a bird gobbling in front of us.  We were sitting 20 yards apart with the most gawd awful sounding hen approaching us from behind coming to the gobbler.  I look at my dad, and he motions just to sit still and be quite.  We are both expecting some guy with a box call to come walking by at any minute only to have the worst sounding hen I've still heard to this day split us, walk to the gobble, and never hear him again.  We still laugh about that.

I don't miss those days. Miss the option to run the big property but I don't miss guys coming in and screwing up an otherwise perfect hunt.

I have heard some "bad" hens as well. This sounded like hen starting to yelp right before she got flattened by a monster truck tire. The box had a good tone though. Will give him that.

Got to love public land. I've seen everything you could imagine from so called hunters. My favorite is when they drive down a NF road stop and stand at the truck door truck running (sometimes radio on sometimes not) and squawk on a box call wait 5 seconds then peel out drive 100 yards and repeat, lol. I have several times been able to get to the truck and talk with the expert I ask them all the same question "have you ever called a gobbler up to the door of your running vehicle" every single one looks at you breathing out of there mouth like a fish out of water with a blank stare I've never got an answer. I tell them if I can here your truck running and radio the gobbler heard it a lot better than I did. The only good thing is these people cannot/will not walk into the woods so all they really do is scare turkeys. I hunt public land only in Louisiana and honest to God I have NEVER seen another hunter with a dead turkey in my entire hunting career it is a rare occasion to hear a gun shot but you usually see 8-10 hunters or ther trucks on a week day. The La forum is loaded with experts and expert advice in Feb- March then the season starts and there's nothing come April when season ends the same experts are back consoling everyone with there tuff season no gobbling excuses or maybe once in a wile there's a pic. of a jake and a story about not having time this year so I shot a jake or they go to TX. and shoot one over a feeder and post 25 pics. of the deceased. I know a lot of you think I'm hard on my opinions  as a turkey hunter but if you made one season here with these ignorant coon asses you'd have the same disposition.
If you make everything easy how do you know when your good at anything?
