Picked my son up at school Friday and slammed the pedal down hoping to put him on a bird I new about. I sent ole Tideland to this spot in the am, but a couple jakes messed him up by running the Tom off into the swamp. As soon as my son and I got to the spot, there he was. 3 hens, 3 jakes, and the Tom. We swung around them and barely got set up before something flushed all of them out of the field. I got aggressive with them and it pulled them all back towards our setup. They walked right by us at 40yds. My son was breathing so hard I thought he was going to get us busted! That bird gave him a small window and he laid him out! Hens and James went flying, my calls went flying, it was total chaos until he reached the bird. Still not sure who was happier.... First gobbler and possibly the most pressured public land east of the Mississippi....
Oh yea..... forgot to mention that I was in such a rush to get out of the house to pick him up, that I looked down on our way and noticed that I was wearing flip flops! Forgot my boots back at the house! Flip flopped it the whole time! A first for me too....
