SS Custom and Greg Cooley.

Team Bucky

Bob Fulcher makes a great one. Sounds more like a boxcall.
Olin Humphries is also good. Has the ribbons and awards over the last 15 years.
David White - Phantomb calls - also has a good sounding scratch box.

noisy box call that seems to sound like a flock of juvenile hens pecking their way through a wheat field

I have both SS and Lonnie Gilbert scratchers.

SS is a smaller call.  The striker has a curved edge and a flat-edged striker does not really work on these calls...  The call makes great clucks and purrs, and is easy to yelp on...   I have tough to getting any volume on mine though.

I have two of Lonnie Gilbert's calls (cause I broke one and sent the other in for repair, and while waiting I ordered another).  Also great low-end sounds on the call, but it is a bit easier to get more volume.  I know own two of his calls, Butternut and Chestnut...

With the compact size, SS calls are a bit more convenient to carry, but there is not a tremendous difference in size between the calls.

I have a slight preference for Lonnie Gilbert's call, but would not hesitate to use either in the field.

I did just order a Chattahoochee Chatterbox, cause it looks like such an interesting call (and seems to have a good reputation as well).

I have heard very good things about Spring Creek scratchers, as well as Russel Beard's  scratchers.
Did I do that?
