Has anyone ever patterned the choke that comes with the gun? When I got my 835, I took the choke off and put in a Carlson's Longbeard XR choke tube without ever trying a shot with the choke that comes with the gun. Just wondering.

Try it out. I can't remember that Ulti being bad shooting regular lead loads.

Cousin patterned a 835 with a Carlson LB XR choke. It threw hellaciously tight patterns. Crazy numbers at 40 with LB #5s. He still has the paper that put 196 in a 10" at 40 with 5's. It averaged 180s all day, BUT they weren't great hunting patterns. Splotchy and a lot of triple/quadruple hits on paper. Ended up with a Kicks Gobbling Thunder. Not sure of the exit diameter, but it gave much more even patterns. 160s at 40 and a bit of forgiveness at 25 and in that the Carlson's didn't have.

I think i patterned mine way back when with some old 3.5" Double XX loads and it gave good patterns.  I think it is worth trying just to see what happens.  I've thinking trying it with some longsbeards myself, but just haven't done it yet.

I've got an older 835, patterns great w xx supremes. I've put that n longbeards through it. Can't remember missing a bird in range w it. Through the longbeards nice but too tight

Mine shoots the 3" super x 5's real well, good 30-35 yard pattern.  I've never run the 3.5" Win supreme HV 5's I regularly shoot through it or the 3" double x 5's I shoot also.  It's a good choke, .695 if I'm not mistaken.

I've got a real early 1991/92 Vintage 835.  I spent a lot of $ on choke tubes and ammo seeking out the best combo.  Many range hours proved that one of the very best combos was the factory Full tube with 3.5" 2oz #4 Federal Premium buffered loads..  That gun with that combo is deadly to 50+ yards and out patterns just about anything I've seen since.  Don't ignore those factory tubes!

I had a Beretta Outlander that did the same thing. After testing about 200 dollars worth of chokes I got curious and tried the factory choke, and bout fell over when I saw the results.

how did that carlson LB choke pattern outta your 835? My buddy just bough one to try .

Have a buddy's that uses one and is more than satisfied. It's killed plenty of birds without issue. It's the only choke he uses for everything.

All I have ever used in mine is the xtra full that came with it. Killed a lotta birds. It works just fine.

From what I recall my 20" 835 did 148 with 3.5 #5 long beards.  This was a few years ago. I am pretty sure I posted it on here.

I shot a few patterns with mine at 30 yards. Here they are. First is Remington nitro #4. Second is longbeard #4. Third is federal thug #5. Fourth is a Remington #5. All 3in loads.
