Headed back to Mississippi after my annual Oklahoma turkey hunt. Turkeys didn't cooperate at all. Think they've already bred. Toms didn't care about coming to a call and didn't pay any attention to the hens. Worked hard for this one.

Congrats on a very nice bird!!!!
What corner of Oklahoma were you hunting.... nothing specific, just general area. We hunt towards the end of the season each year, and have found the behavior you describe to be normal at that time. Our season in Louisiana has been tough.... very little gobbling and the weather has been bad. But any day hunting turkeys is a good day.. :-)) Best wishes for the rest of the Mississippi season.... btw.. my son-in-law in central Mississippi has not been hearing any gobbling in the Bienville forest area... :-(
Safe hunting.... Rusty

I was in the Cheyenne area of Oklahoma last week on private land. Gobblers were still strutting and breeding heavily. Morning hunts were tough, but as it transitioned into afternoon, the gobblers were very receptive to calling. One bird was taken in the morning and another 5 were taken after 11.

We were north east of Oklahoma City. The turkeys gobbled and we saw turkey all day. Think I killed mine around 12:30. The toms were grouped up and wouldn't even look up at a call. Only had 1 bird out of 9 different gobblers that came to a call.

Congratulations, I'm tagged out so it's some down time until I heard to Missouri or Kansas.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons. However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

I was around Thomas, OK for the opener, I tagged out in three days, but I found them to be very henned up in the mornings. Two of my three were taken in the evening and they were receptive to calling, then. In the mornings, the hens were everywhere and very vocal.
