Shiny Gun Finishes

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."  A lot of the custom, factory, and do-it-yourself gun finishes look great, but the majority of them shine like a mirror in the sun and even reflect indirect light.  I make every effort to set-up and hunt utilizing shadows and shade, but that is not always possible.  Some of the factory black bead-blasted or parkerized finishes are the most non-reflective and don't shine.  There is a reason that military snipers wrap the barrel and gun w/ burlap or non-reflective cloth. The utilization of cloth wrap or a commercial Coban wrap like McNett's produces the best non-reflective gun finish which may not look great to the eye of the gun's owner, but if the purpose of a gun's camo finish is to increase the odds of killing a gobbler by reducing shine and glare, I'll always opt for the latter.
