One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

the Carlson extended .575 or the Primos .570 tightwad are the ones you need to look at for a young hunter and a good "hunting" pattern
it's not the harvest,it's the chase

my 21" 20ga likes the Trulok choke and heavyweight #7's.  keeps a pretty even pattern at 40yds.

This.. Federal and Trulock for a youth 20 Ga.. can't go wrong..

Try the Carlson's .575, Good choke and cheap, my son shoots it  with fed hw #7 and has killed birds from 15 to 30 yrds and would easily kill one at 40.

Check the 20 gauge guns / 20 gauge pattern threads below. A LOT of examples of success with the Federal Heavyweight #7's. Lots of choke / shell combos to read through....

I have good luck with the SSX and federal Heviweight 3-1.5-7's out of my 20 ga. Mossberg, but as Steelerfan has stated, there is a wealth of info on the 20 ga thread.

Look for your gun in the threads on the pattern page. You'll find some good info to get you close.

I've had good results with H.S. Strut Undertaker non-ported.

Before you buy a new choke try federal 20 gauge shells with the "flightcontrol" wads!  The best are of course the heavyweight #7s which are simply amazing, but even the #6 lead with that wad will be an improvement over what you are currently shooting.  The only other shell besides federal I would consider are hevishot 7s, due to high pellet count, and also being tungsten based they pattern a bit tighter than lead.  But overall federal has the 20 gauge flightcontrol wad figured out and it make a difference even without the high-end chokes.  But those chokes can put up numbers that make it a legit 40 and beyond load that rivals 12 gauges without lots of recoil.
