They are a color aberration within the genetic makeup, there are a few of these that occur. This happens in a number of species

Thanks for the response. I knew that about other species, but a lot of the time when people post pics like this, others start crying domestic.

Not saying this couldn't be a cross... I live in farm country and there are domestics that could have bred a wild hen, don't know for sure there are any domestics in this area but have never seen anything like this around.
