Another decoy debate

I have had great success with a dsd jake. Awesome decoy, no doubt.  Me and my dad have used it back and fourth. Its really his, but I use it quite a bit. Anyway I was thinking about picking up a jake so we could both have one. I believe I am going to try an avian. I think dsd is a better decoy, but avian is easier to find and a bit cheaper. Anyway my question is would you go with the 1/4 strut or 3/4 strut?

I'd go with the full strut, full flock. 8 or 10 spread out would really grab their attention and pull them in on a string. 
Get half DSD and half Avian just to keep from being disappointed.

I would stick with the quarter strut. In my opinion you will have better luck attracking non dominant birds with it. Good luck

I killed my first turkey last year and it was definitely because of decoys. but yesterday had a huge lone tom come about 75 yards and when he saw decoys he clucked twice and went opposite way fast. guess it just depends on the bird

I know you're going to laugh but I have a DSD hen and a Funky Chicken jake. I've had gobblers open a can of whoop a$$ on that sad little jake lots of times. I've also had a gobbler go away like there was a stop light flashing above the little guy. Later that day I found out why. He came back and was just unfolding when four jakes came running and, well, it was remarkable that the gobbler survived!
Chicken is cheap and he works! So there's my vote...

Funky Chicken is about the only one I'd recommend, other than Bandonkadeke naturally.  Even though it looks like it swallowed a Viagra and it got stuck in it's throat, it is pretty effective in most circumstances and phases of season.   I said from the beginning it would be a killer for those who use decoys and could get past its ridiculous look.  There is a reason for its effectiveness that most hunters don't understand.  I bet more non decoy users understand the concept than avid decoy users.   I'm not explaining it because most folks think I'm about senile when it comes to this turkey hunting deal.   But for the money, effectiveness and ease of mobility I'd take a Funcky chicken or two over a DSD any day.

The DSD is a better decoy, apples to apples. I killed birds over the avian Jake with the bow, but I have more confidence in the DSD. The posture and paint scheme of the DSD seem to get a more urgent response from gobblers. Hunting with a gun, I think the avian is fine but if bow hunting I think DSD is the only way. Also, the dsd is a good bit lighter than the avian.

I have one and have used it exactly one time. A jake came running to it and I waited to see who else would show up, shot a nice 2 year old bird a while later. I haven't used it since but not for lack of it working. 1 for 1 is hardly an adequate sample size though...

We have not put "Funky" out this season but with my hunting buddy still with one bird needed to fill our season limit may at some point.  Funky saved the day for me late last year.  Had him out in a cow pasture at 2pm, was looking at something else (typical), when I heard a few excited clucks and whines.  Turned my head and watched ELEVEN jakes slipping up on him.  The biggest jake took over and kicked Funky's butt.  My family loves to eat turkey and I rarely ever apologize for taking a legal bird.  Boom.  I have a pic somewhere I'll post it.  We need a GoPro.   Ooops!  Double pic post.  Oh well.
