My cousin come over from St James, MO this weekend to pick up his new Elite bow and went hunting with me this morning.  I usually bow hunt turkeys but seeing how I have 5 permits between IL and MO I wanted to give a Tom the dirt nap with my new 20 gauge.  It felt kinda strange yet good to carry a gun again as I have been dedicated to bowhunting birds for many years.
We had 2 birds across the pasture hammering it up but I could not get them to co-operate and come across the creek.
Finally the hens pulled them away to the West after exchanging a few series of calls over a 45 minute period.
At about 7:20 we had a bird gobble to the East of us and in short order he was across the pasture and in the decoys.
He whipped the tar out of my jake decoy pecking & flogging him like crazy.  My cousin and I were soaking it up for as long as possible watching the show.
I cut at him trying to make him gobble just for a little more show but instead of gobbling he got all excited at the sound and started having his way (if you know what I mean) with nothing but air.
My cousin who had never seen the false imitation of a bird mating was laughing and enjoying the show when suddenly it happened.
I had two DSD hens out and this guy never gave any attention to them the entire time.  The more I cut at him the worst it got as he climbed up on my DSD Jake and had his way with him! :turkey2:
It was at this time I decided to pull the trigger and remove him from the gene pool!

No monster but a nice 2 yr old
Weight 23.125lbs, Beard 9.8125, both spurs .75 for a total of 57.7500

This is where he fell and how he laid as we walked up on him.

I have taken over 200 birds and seen hen decoys mounted before but this is the first time I have had a jake decoy mounted and their was evidence left that he was violated.

Apologizing:  does not always mean you are wrong and the other person is right.
It just means that you value your relationship more than your ego.

Congratulations on a fine turkey.

Right now, I would take a transgender Tom, the way my season has been so far.

Did you ever think that maybe you bought a gay DSD jake? Huh? I mean, he may have come on to the tom.

Congratulations John on a great bird and a great story. That guy needed shooting after what he did to your decoy.
Spring turkey hunting, I love it so.                FREEDOM IS NOT FREE
