I have been using mouth calls for a couple of years now and ive gotten lucky a few times but never been satisfied with my calls at all. Today I was trying to get some good clean front end sounds with my new hooks calls.
I just couldn't get there. Not blaming the calls because ive never gotten a good tone.
Any way I found this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uPXoGEZeYg

I have a vee cut ,a batwing and a combo cut. After watching and getting a better understanding about the mechanics of calls i decided to try something. I took the vee and cut a section making it a reverse combo cut. well low and behold Im getting an amazingly (never accomplished before by me) good front end note. This is a game changer for me!!
I figured this out because i could get my best tone out of the 3 using the batwing and realized which side my air channel is.
So now I know ill always need a reverse cut . This is a must see video for mouth call newbies.

Just to add to this. The call worked great this morn . I called in and killed a nice super jake this morning.
I didnt weigh him but he had to be close to 20lbs. Very large to be a jake. About a 3 " beard (if that, I didnt measure it) and  7/8" spurs (I did measure)
Great way to start the season!!!
Thanks to this forum for pointing me to that video . I needed it!! :thanks:
