I bought a go pro session 4 a while back and want to try it out during turkey season. I bought the head mount for it. I'm not sure to set it near decoys, or keep it on me? Any body have one or advice on using a go pro for self filming?

We have all but ditched the GoPro's... Not really designed for us hunters, was made for the "Extreme Sports" crowd. We only use to catch B-Roll anymore. If we are filming 1st person footage we have gone over to Tactacam, the new 4.0 Shotgun version is great! can still mount a bow and you can tell what is out in the distance with it, If GoPro actually tries to develop a camer for our use I would look at them again...

Now on to your question we have gone with 2 different mounts, a small pod in the field next to decoys when bow hunting and on the gun for 1st person, never did like the head mount, ended up with some off angled footage. I think the gun mount we had was a "Sportsmen's" Mount. I took some great video but had to be so close to subject or you couldn't tell if it was a 25lb turkey or a 1500 pounds of Angus...

If you use decoys I would put the gopro  on the ground facing the decoys and yourself, or mount it right on the back of a jake or tom strutter decoy. I assume it has the remote control? Turn it on when birds are getting close. I don't have much a use for those type of cameras when turkey hunting myself, just because of the way I hunt, but they are great for fishing (head cam mount) and great for flying my R/C airplane. For filming game that is not very close to the camera, it's just not that great, because of the wide angle lens. It captures more area on screen, but that makes the animals look like a little speck if they're not very close. Which is why a decoy setup would be good, since they often interact with the decoys.

I agree with MKM, I have had several go-pro cameras and use them for other things than hunting, they are good for pov facing the hunter. Recently purchased a Tactacam 4.0 for this season. Picked it up from the Sportsmans guide for 296.00.
The 5x zoom on this lill camera is great. Very easy to use also, wished I would have had that technology 30 years ago.
Don't gobble at me...

GoPro's sell easy, we had no problem moving a couple of old ones. Maybe use the one you have a bit and see if you like footage... If not sell, find a deal on the Tactacam and go from there.
