Question for the SC Hunters

Is it true that there is no way to renew a hunting license until the previous one expires in SC?  I've gotten out of state tags for about 5 years and don't remember having this issue.  I'm holding my license and it is valid 3/22/16-3/22-17.  When I go to the SCDNR to renew online it will not let me chose that option to renew (I'm guessing until tomorrow 3.23.17?)  If so this is pretty absurd that you can't give the state money anytime that you want to.  Is it the same if you renew at a sporting goods store in person?  If it is then that's a problem for me.  I'm Planning to be up at the crack of dawn tomorrow to chase turkeys but now I'll have to find a printer first in the morning?

****called SCDNR and got it straitened out....

What did they say? SCDNR is a hot mess. They just recently changed the license dates to run one full year, so at least we got that going for us  :TooFunny:

Do you have turkey tags for this year? They have to mail them or be picked up at a DNR office

I have been hunting SC since. The early 80s the last few years I have been getting a renewal notice in the mail ,but can't remember getting one for last year, I know they are in process of changing over the software lately and having problems
Plan on going to hunt SC public land 1st week in April  GREENWOOD area , going to haul the camper down  anyone going to be close?

I was able to order the turkey tags over a month ago.  Basically when you call you get transferred to the sales dept who tells you pretty much nothing.  I tried to renew my license online last night and it wasn't an option, I tried it first thing today at 6:00 AM and couldn't do it.  While I was on hold for 15 mins while they looked for the answer I went back to the DNR website just to try again and there it was as an option (on the left).  I don't know what changed or if it's something to do with the time of day or what but when I printed the temporary tag it now shows last years license and this years on the printout so it worked.

I get a new Sportsman's license every year for my birthday. Mine license expires at the end of June, but I can get it about a month early. When I order the license, I automatically get turkey tags, and they are mailed out in February. I am assuming that you are getting an out-of-state license?

Hey, man! When will you be in Greenwood? I used to live in Greenwood when I was attending Lander University. I am not sure what days you are planning to hunt, but I will be available to hunt on Thursdays if you want some company. Shoot me a PM if you want to try to get together and hunt one day.

I'm pretty close, don't know if I'll be working that week yet or not but I'd love to meet a fellow OG'er if I'm off

Sorry, just realized when you said you would be there. I am available to hunt Thursday April 6 if you want a fellow OG member to join you. As Smooth said, it would be nice to meet another member.
