Maybe I'm just crazy, or have missed the obvious here. Has anyone else noticed that wood barreled trumpet calls seem to be harder to play in early mornings when the temperature is a little colder? Those same trumpets run easier and better in the afternoons when the temps rise. Could be something I'm doing wrong. I've been very proficient with mouth calls, box calls, and pot calls for years, but only picked up the trumpets about three years ago. Anyone else notice this or am I missing something?

Not sure it's the call as much as it is your lips. On cold mornings I notice my lips aren't as moisturized and limber, they stay dry and hard in lower humidity and cold. Big fan of chapstick/carmex.....

 I cannot speak to trumpet calls, but I have noticed a similar experience with duck calls.

Switching to acrylic calls I seem to have  noticed a little improvement.

Wood will certainly expand and contract more with changing temperatures and plastics in acrylics well.   However I also think there are changes that occur with my mouth and throat in cold weather as well that also affect the change in pitch that a call mix.

Moisture also seems to have more of an impact with wood.

When my mouth is dry, I struggle with a trumpet. Maybe this is why you struggle on cold mornings

Yes , i have and that's why i want my bottle of water regular temperature that i carry... I also like to keep my trumpets covered...in a small bag...
