Land Between the Lakes Quota Hunt

I was informed by a guy that you could not "hunt" from a boat. Meaning that it was illegal to ride around in a boat, locate a bird, and go hunt him. I thought this sounded a little crazy but maybe someone can answer this correctly for me.

Forgot to apply for the hunt this year - I was traveling and simply didn't remember the deadline.

I have heard that too but you can use the boat to get to places,or nothing says you cant bass fish and get out and shoot a turkey

I just carry a blow up pool float in my turkey vest and blow it if I need to paddle out to a better area.

Roost1 killed a Gobbler in there a couple years ago and it had webbed feet.

My crappie fishing buddy says he sees the swimming around in full strut all the time.

]Almost missed this post - We lived in Marshall County KY for nine years within sight of LBL.  Not going to be able to help you with the TN section but a few things always seemed to apply to TN and KY sections.  Don't hesitate to hunt near the Trace.  Over the years shot several LBL birds while watching trucks drive by.  Boat suggestion also good but you might have a problem following the check out procedures if you score.  With cell phones etc this may not be the problem it once was.  It truly is the tick capital of the world.  Spray your outer clothing and wear the tick gators around your ankles.  Hunt after nine a.m.  It seemed a magic whistle blew at nine and everyone rushed into Grand Rivers for breakfast.  I'll play with my old pictures.  Before moving we gathered up some old fans and donated them to NFTF's Zuni Project.  These birds were from LBL, Ft. Campbell or Clarks River NWR.  All good western KY spots at times.  I still miss the place.  It was the last truly run and gun hunting I've done.  If you hear him you can usually legally go get him without fear of crossing a property line.  Good luck.  Let us know how you do.


Add - that boat stuff is a lot of hooey IMO -  betting you can still access by boat, beach the boat, and go hunt.  In the good old days if you scored after coming in by boat you had to hide your bird and then figure a way to walk in, recover the bird, and check it in.  In those days the entrances were manned and birds had to be  physically checked in.  I don't think that even applies now from what I've heard.  Telecheck solved everything.

The only time you can telecheck at LBL is if the check station is unmanned. The check stations are normally manned from 8-5 everyday.

Thank you - been a while - so if you boat into an area, were to legally shoot a bird, then just loaf around until 5:05pm,  then call telecheck and report the kill, you are good to go?  Sounds like that would keep you legal and save an awful lot of work.  Good luck this season.

In reality there was always confusion with LBL rules on this and that.  I can remember one (of several) concerning whether or not duck hunters could be in shore blinds while quota deer hunts were going on.  Don't even remember how that turned out.  Probably remember more "controversies" at some point.  Still some great public land.  Hope to return for a second week turkey hunt at some point.  That first quota period always was a circus at times.  Good luck to all hunting there.  Please post some pictures.
