Loose choke tube

What kind of an impact will this make on POI? I got out about 30 minutes ago to really dial my gun in for opening day. Shot 8 shots. 6 at 40 2 at 20 and everything was dead on. After I finished shooting I noticed my choke tube had worked it's way out about 3 turns. Why I didn't check like I normally do between shots I have no idea, but I know it wasn't loose before I started shooting. Should I expect my POI to be off? Anymore shells to check with as of right now, so I was just curious as to what I should expect?

I would recommend you check your barrel and choke for any signs of damage first. I ruined a barrel and choke with a loose choke. Once all checks out, I would shoot at least a couple of shells just to make sure poi was still good. You would hate to miss a bird by not checking.

Barrel and threads checked out all good. Should I expect a drastic change in POI since removing the choke completely?

No, it wont change it at least not a lot, maybe a few inches at most... its not like removing choke would make you miss by 6" to 1ft i removed mine last year too clean barrel without issue, if you want to be sure throw another shell down it but im sure its fine if you dont

No. I remove mine after almost every shot to clean it without issue.

you good.  I know I get paranoid about that stuff as well, but what pattern testing I have done (and thats alot)  I have not found that it makes much difference if any. Good luck!

Absolutley paranoid over here lol somewhat along the same topic if you have rifle sights mounted to the rib and not on the receiver how pertinent is it to tighten the mag cap to the same point everytime? I know it's good practice regardless, but I just purchased this gun 2 weeks ago and got right into patterning and getting ready for the season coming in this Wednesday and i just never marked it. In theory being a rifle sight on the rib removing the barrel and cleaning and installing it back should not do much if anything at all correct?

If the choke screwed back in as it normally does, it should be fine. POI should fine but wouldn't hurt to shoot it before you get out in the woods with Ole Tom standing in front of you. When you screw in the choke, hand tighten and then back it off half a turn and tighten it back down again. Not sure what you have on the threads but a good thread grease keeps my chokes tight better than just having a standard oil. Good luck in the turkey woods.

Agree, if it all screws back into the barrel it will be fine....

Currently using Outers choke lube. I'll give it a run tomorrow to check. Unfortunately going to be 15-17 mph winds and pretty darn cold in south Alabama tomorrow, but maybe I can get a pattern check if the wind dies for a second haha.

That Outers should work. We are looking at the same here in MS. 30's in the morning for the last day of youth season. It's been raining most mornings that we have been able to go. Gonna have the little man bundled up in a ground blind.
