Hello,

So I ordered a new Weatherby SA-459 Turkey from Bud's Gun Shop. It finally arrives at my FFL and I am examining it before I take delivery. I look down the barrel and see debris stuck in two places. I asked the guy at the FFL for cleaning equipment. Luckily he is a good guy and helped me out. I cleaned out two large pits that were holding what looked like burnt wadding about half way down the barrel. I did not take delivery. Called Bud's and so far they have been very friendly and helpful. We will see how it goes. This is not the first time I have had bad barrel luck either. My 870 had severe machine chatter makers in it when I bought it. It was a pain in the a$$ getting that resolved with Remington. The replacement they sent did not have a bead. It just had a wallowed out hole where a bead used to be. a few years later I order a shorter 870 barrel and it comes also badly pitted. That as another pain in the a$$ to get sorted out.

Thought I would just come on here and vent. Wish me luck!

New gun or new to you? If it was to be brand new, I'm curious about a wad being in the barrel. Was it maybe test fired?

Makes you wonder who, if anyone, inspects them before they go to packing.  Good luck on getting it right!

I was told they test fire the guns at the factory. You would think they would at least look down the bore in quality control before shipping.

I believe I would just buy one from a local dealer. At least you would know what you are buying before hand.

Shameful in my opinion. When a person buys something new we expect just that especially in a gun..I don't think I've ever pulled a barrel off a gun and inspected it before I've purchased until this day forward...

I ordered mine through my local dealer it came in wrapped and packaged awesome from weatherby, it was spotless clean. Very tight so tight it was hard getting forearm.on which is a good thing to me. The barrel was emaculate clean. Gun patterns awesome just wish I ordered the 20 guage. Sounds like something odd there on customer service end. Maybe.one the Turks for their head covering stock.in it packaging it! :cowboy:

The one I got was in plastic and in a box. The barrel was separate and in its own plastic "sock." I was not particularly impressed with the packaging of the one they sent me. However, it was in very good condition besides the two craters in the bore. I really hope the replacement is in as good a shape as yours is. From what I understand Bud's only exchanges firearms once and then they refund your money if there is still a problem. They also said they will not inspect the replacement before they ship it to my FFL as I requested. They said they ship it as they receive it from the manufacturer.

I bought a Yildiz .410 a month or so ago and it's currently having warranty work done.  :angry9:

The hammer would fall when closing the action and out of the 6 rounds I tried putting through it,  it misfired 3 times only leaving a very small "ding" in the primer. Go figure that I would get the lemon.  ::)

Hope you get your issue resolved.

I order most all my guns thru my local dealer..He stocks mostly hand guns and Ar 15 and few long guns, he's great person to deal with and will help you fine the best deal on line. Before any paperwork is sign on the gun he and myself inspect the gun, if it's not right he will contact the on line store or dealer. I have not problem ordering on-line...These big box on line places are not in business to screw the consumer.

Sadly your Remington experience was not uncommon. The old 870 were top shelf I don't know what has happened but especially the lower end models like the express have a lot of issues.Maybe most people today don't know any better or care about the quality if its got a shinny camo  dip or a decal or two there happy.Good luck with the search my opinion buy an older 870 wingmaster that hasn't been beat to death.
If you make everything easy how do you know when your good at anything?
