Any tips on howto make your strikers catch more? Gotta buddy that said sandpaper but seems to me that would smooth it more than rough it up

I send a small piece of 120 grit sandpaper with all my wood strikers.  Its been my experience, especially on slate, that the tips will load up with the slate, and then loose their sound.  Clean up the tips with sand paper.  Use scotch brite on the slate.  Glass isnt quite a problem.   Hope this helps.

Yup! Sandpaper here too! It doesn't take much pressure to clean the striker and rough it up a bit. Scotch brite pad for most calling surfaces...

Ok i'll try it out.  Thanks for the responses!!

And after sanding lightly,  chalk the tip with some rain chalk or other good chalk.  Then it should grab better.

Thunderchicken....Along with sandpaper I will also recommend drywall sanding screen.  It works well for cleaning strikers and call conditioning.  The holes in the screen helps in keeping it from building up with residue.
